Janey David is a licensed cosmetologist and a versatile hair stylist and makeup artist with over 20 years of experience in hair artistry and 8 years in professional makeup. Her passion for creative expression ignited in childhood, inspired by her mother's work in the 90s. This early fascination quickly developed into an innate talent, leading her to master braiding by age 16.
During her high school years, she became the go-to person for braids and weaves, assisting local salons and working weekends as an African Hair Braider in Dudley Sq. (now Nubian Sq).
Her formal education culminated in her graduation as a Licensed Cosmetologist from Empire Beauty School in January 2018. During her time there, Janey not only excelled academically but was also recognized for her business acumen, receiving certificates for highest retail sales and most productive stylist.
She was further honored to sing the Star-Spangled Banner at her commencement ceremony, a testament to her inspiring presence.
Janey's comprehensive expertise spans a wide range of hair and makeup artistry, including bridal, editorial, film, television, commercial, and special effects.
Her impressive portfolio showcases contributions to diverse projects, from intricate looks for on-set productions with OneLess Media Group and Sound & Vision Media to elegant styling for published photoshoots in Boston Voyager and TV appearances for organizations like the Love Life Now Foundation. Her work on independent films such as "Doubt," "Set Her Free," "Black Emperor of Broadway," and the YouTube series "Unconditional Love" highlights her adaptability and skill across various media.
Janey's professional journey is deeply rooted in a story of remarkable resilience and profound inspiration. In 2009, as a newly single, young mother, she faced immense adversity including domestic violence, homelessness, and poverty. The pregnancy that brought her beautiful son into the world was also marked by the devastating loss of his twin brother in utero, followed by the challenges of parenting a child with special needs. Forced to spend a few years as a stay-at-home mother due to lack of childcare, Janey discovered her inner entrepreneur.
Guided by a mentor's advice to "find something you don't mind doing that's legal, moral, and ethical and learn to be the best at it," she harnessed her innate talent for hair styling to make ends meet. This period, while challenging, solidified her resolve and fueled her dream of becoming a licensed professional.
Her son became her ultimate "why," motivating her to overcome every obstacle and pursue a stable, fulfilling career. Her experiences taught her invaluable lessons in tenacity, resourcefulness, and the power of turning adversity into a driving force for positive change.
